My best friend

Everyone has lots of friends. During my studying from elementary school to university, I also have lots of friends. Among those, I would like to introduce my best friend minju who always makes me happy and backs me up. Without her, I would not be as happy as I am now.

I vividly remember the day we first met. We first met when we were high school freshmen students. It was the first day that I transferred to Tongjin high school. I was really nervous and worried. At that time, minju talked to me. In my memory, I thought minju was pretty. She was tall and had a high nose and a fair-skinned face. And, she had an oval face with bright brown eyes and a brown straight long hair. She smiled and asked me to eat lunch together. I was really thanked her because it was the first day and I didn't know anyone. Minju introduced me to her friends during lunch. Thanks to minju, I made lots of friends and accommodated easily in new environment. Although it was the first day, we talked a lot and found we had many common things. So, similar to "love at first sight," I thought we could be a best friend at first sight. Actually, after that, we were getting close very quickly.

Looking back, I and my friends called Minju 'mother' because she took good care of us. She sometimes brought some food for breakfast and fed us. Also, when I visited her house, she always made delicious food for me. Also, when I had to make a big decision, she advised and gave emotional security like my mother. When I was a high school senior, I agonized for days whether I should apply to HUFS. My teacher said "You will be rejected by HUFS. Apply to another university." After I heard this saying, I decided not to apply to HUFS. However, Minju encouraged me to forge on, and said "You always be yourself at all times and not pay any attention to what people say concerning you." I gained confidence after talking with her.

Also, she is one of the most challenging person I've ever seen. After entering university, she always said to me that she wanted to change her major. Although she majored biology, what she really wanted to do was acting. Finally, she joined drama club in her university and changed her major from biology to theater and film studies with the help of her professor. I was worried at first because acting looked hard way to make a living. However, she said "I know that majoring biology is much better for making a living. However, I think doing the things I really want to do is much more important than earning money." And, when I watched a play staged by students of the Theater and Film Department and Minju, I acknowledged she was right and changed my mind. She looked very happy and enjoyed her life.

Until now, we have promoted our friendship since we first met. And even though we entered different university, our friendship was getting intense. When I got stressed and needed healing, I always met minju. She comforted me and understood everything. Of course, although we are best friend, we sometimes conflict. However, we trust and understand each other, so we listen to each other's opinion, and try to meet halfway. Like this, I am sure that we can act wisely when we conflict. We always says that we cannot imagine life without each other. So I really hope that our friendship will be long and won't ever end.

  1. 1.By reading your essay, I believe your friend Minju is a strong person that has her own values and principles, and also at the same time very caring and helpful to those around her.
2.Three details that helped me to sum up Minju’s personality are first, the fact that she was like a mother to you and your other friends, by giving a lot of care and also food. Another detail was that she actually encouraged you to apply for HUFS. For anyone, making a decision so important would have been very difficult and tough, but as your friend Minju had her own principles and values in life, gave you what she believes, which in the end benefitted you very much. The last detail was when she changed her major. Changing a major to something that is unrelated to the former one is not possible without a lot of hesitation, but the fact that she did so tells the reader how much she is very strong.
3.a. what the person looks like
She was tall and had a high nose and a fair-skinned face. And, she had an oval face with bright brown eyes and a brown straight long hair.
    b. what the person says
"You always be yourself at all times and not pay any attention to what people say concerning you."
    c. what the person does
she joined drama club in her university and changed her major from biology to theater and film studies with the help of her professor.
    d. what other people say about the person
    not mentioned
4.There were mainly two parts that I did not understand clearly. First one was when you said ‘she is one of the most challenging person I’ve ever seen.’ I believe that in this sentence the word challenging means a person that is troublesome and hard to get acquainted to, which is slightly different from your intention. Also, at the last part of your essay you said that you have promoted your relationship and it is getting intense. Looking at the words I believe they do not properly display your feelings toward your friendship. Maybe you could explain more in order to show how you feel about your friend Minju.
5.I believe you have chosen to talk about your friend because she is not just normal friend, but someone that helped you so much during your high school and also now, whether it was to get used to the school or choosing the university. And also as she gives you many realistic solutions or her beliefs, I believe she was something much more than just a friend to you. I would have wanted to describe and compliment her as well.
6.You said you have a lot of friends that hanged around with both you and Minju, and what were their opinions about Minju?
Could you provide a conflict that occurred between you and Minju, and tell us about how her personality helped in overcoming that conflict?

  2. 1. Minju is a very strong and high ambitious person.

2.1) Her saying ," You always be yourself at all times and not pay any attention to what people say concerning you."
    2) She found what she wanted
    3) and made an action to do what she wants

    3. What the person looks like: She was tall and had a high nose and a fair-skinned face. And, she had an oval face with bright brown eyes and a brown straight long hair.
What the person says:"You always be yourself at all times and not pay any attention to what people say concerning you."
What the person does:Minju introduced me to her friends during lunch.
What other people say about the person: Not mentioned

    4. I could understand everything in the story but I think words like 'challenging' might make the reader confused.

5.I think the writer chose to describe her best friend because the writer thinks the friend is a great person in the way she helped the writer and how she did to make her dream come true.

6.Why did you two had a conflict? What do others say about Minju>?

Of course, although we are best friends, we sometimes conflict. When we went a Boracay trip, we almost fought. While she wanted to eat barbecue, I wanted to eat pasta. We were sensitive over nothing. An awkward silence hung between us for a time. Person who broke the silence was her. She said “Let’t not ruin our trip. Let’s just eat pasta for dinner and eat barbecue for midnight snack.” I thanked her because I did not want to ruin our trip but I did not know how to break that awkward situation. Like this, she acted wisely when we had conflicts and I also tried to trust and understand her. So, we are still best friends and I really hope that our friendship will be long and won't ever end.
